Do I need to pay for my pathology test?

We bulk bill all pathology tests that are covered under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).
If your test is listed on the MBS and your doctor has requested it appropriately, you will not need to pay.

However, there are some situations where a payment may be required, either at the time of collection or once testing is completed. These situations may include:

• Tests not covered by Medicare
• Tests requested for insurance, employment, visa/immigration, pre-employment, or legal purposes
• Certain specialised tests not eligible for bulk billing
• Patients who are not eligible for Medicare
• Tests where your doctor has specifically indicated private billing

If any fees apply, our staff will advise you before your sample is collected.
