How long does it take for my doctor to receive my test results?

Routine pathology tests are generally processed and sent to your doctor within 48 hours of collection.
Most common blood tests fall into this timeframe.

However, some specialised or complex tests may take longer, including:

  • hormone and endocrine tests
  • genetic or molecular testing
  • infectious disease PCR or culture tests
  • allergy and immunology testing
  • tests requiring referral to external laboratories

These tests may take several days or more to be completed.

Your doctor will receive your results as soon as they are finalised. If your doctor requires results urgently, they can mark the request as urgent, and the laboratory will prioritise processing where possible.

For timeframes specific to your test, please speak with your doctor or collection centre before your appointment.
